What could be better than getting married to the love of your life and celebrating with families and friends? Having your pet join in on the festivities!
There are many benefits of having pets and the top of this list is that they bring joy to your life and become a member of the family.
Since weddings are a huge step in life, having all the members of the family present is important. If your pet is family, then why not make them a part of it? Many people have owned their pet long before they even met the person they are marrying! Including your pet in the wedding celebrations are now becoming more and more common.
You do, however, need to consider a few things before having them as part of the wedding celebrations. This will ensure a smooth day and happy interactions between your guests and your pet.
To have pets as part of your ceremony, you need consider the following:
- Is your pet well-behaved, can they handle being part of a large crowd and will they wander?
- How will they be a part of the day – will they be a flower girl or boy, a dog ring bearer, dog of honour or a surprise guest for you partner?
- Is your pet suitable to be part of the bridal party photo shoot?
- Will they be coming to the reception?
- Are any of your guests allergic to pets?
- Is the ceremony and reception venue pet friendly?
- Are you able to give your pet attention and reassurance during the celebrations?
- Have you considered hiring a dog wedding sitter for the day?
- And of course, what cute outfit will they be wearing on the day!?
Pets that are well trained are in most cases well-behaved. When considering having the pets as part of the ceremony on the big day, it is important to make sure that the pets follow the instructions given to them. In the case where the pets are not well trained or appear strong-willed, it might be wise to hire a pet specialist or wedding dog-handler to get your pet ready for that important day to make sure everything goes according to plan.
You may also want to consider your pet’s behaviour when he or she is around people because there are animals that love their owners but may hostile to everyone else.
Your pets comfort during the celebrations
Just as you would be concerned about everyone else’s comfort during the ceremony, you should think about the comfort of your pet. Ensure their food is prepared on time and they have a place to nap should the ceremony go on for longer than anticipated. You may also set a part an area for them to play. In ensuring the comfort of your pet, stick to the schedules you normally use with them. This will ensure the pet is relaxed and a happy pet is the least animal to cause chaos.
Find out if any of your guests is allergic to your pet
A wedding is a day to celebrate life and love. It would be very unfortunate if any of your guests ended up in hospital due to allergies. While you send out your invitations ensure that you clearly state your intention to have your pet as a part of the wedding. You should also ask the guests to tell you in advance if they are so that you can make proper arrangements. If any of your guests are allergic, the most drastic option would be to not have you pet as part of the ceremony. The better alternative is to ask every person who is allergic to take preventive medication beforehand. The other option is to have both parties at the ceremony but ensure that they do not meet.
Some of the guests might just be fearful of your pet. In such a case keeping the pet away from the guests would be advisable. You may also use the opportunity to show people that your pet is harmless and approachable to ensure the day occurs without a glitch.
The premises where you will hold the wedding should permit the pet within the premises.
This should be done before you even invite your pet to the wedding. You should find a place that is both perfect for you and has no problem with your pet attending. If they allow the pets, you should find out what their guidelines concerning the pet being present in the premises. You may also take your pet with you as the preparations take place so that he/she familiarises with the place.
Don’t ignore your pet
If you are used to lavishing attention on your pet, you should not stop just because it is your wedding day. They, just like you and me, need the assurance from their owners. Find time during the ceremony to have a quick peep in on your pet.
